Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) - SS302

* For marketing staff, design staff and others involved in planning or designing products, services or environments

Course description

The Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) course teaches basic methods and tools for planning, configuring, qualifying and launching products, services, transactions, processes and environments that move quality upstream in an organization.

With the methods and tools in the DFSS course, a design practitioner can "build quality into" processes and outcomes such that the opportunity for material variation and defects never occurs.

Course outcomes

  • Instills the value that the practice of high-quality design should be inherent in everything a person or corporation does.
  • Students will obtain an understanding of how to identify and document the voice of the customer relative to any design objective.
  • Students acquire an understanding of "alpha" and "beta" risk, and learn the FMEA methodology for minimizing risk in any design.
  • Provides the necessary skills for minimizing design error and its associated manifestation in poor quality.
  • Avoids the detrimental effects of repeated value erosion from sub-optimized designs, and provides benefits in the form of future cost-of-poor-quality avoidance.
